Google Places – Where You Need to Be
Written By: June Bachman ~ 2/27/2012 9:00:00 AM

97% of all consumer use search engines to find local businesses.  In face over 22% of ALL searches are related to a location, or contain a location keyword.  Google has spent the past couple of years building the listings in places, and has added over 50 million different places from around the world.  However, only 4 million businesses have taken the time to claim their listing.

You may have noticed that last year Google updated its search results pages to expand the local places listings on the first page of the search results.  Claiming your places page is a FREE process and will only take you some time.  It is a fantastic way for small businesses to get listed on the first page of Google, and potentially drive more traffic to your website.  Additionally, you can improve your Google Places Page by using Google Offers, Google’s answer to Groupon.  Also, with each Google Place Page, your listing is automatically available on mobile devices.

Small businesses that decide to manage their own places pages need to keep the following in mind:

  • Regular updates are a must.
  • Claim your listing, and the edit the profile content.  Be complete as possible – make sure your listing has a 100% complete score.
  • Encourage your clients to write reviews about your business, and respond to those recommendations.

For businesses that don’t have enough time to maintain and manage their own places pages, you can hire a company to manage it for you.  Look for companies whose charges don’t exceed $75 per month.  bWyse does have a service available to help you get going with your places page … just give us a call!
