Google Made 40 Changes during February 2012
By: June Bachman ~ 3/5/2012 8:45:00 AM

Last week Google posted a blog about the changes and updates that were made to their search engine algorithm during the month of February.  Each month, Google typically makes at least this many changes … which is one of the reasons why organic search engine optimization is considered a moving target.

Many of the changes are minor. However, the update about images is important, because you can easily control the images on your website and subsequently implement a few suggestions to help give a boost in the rankings.

Google expanded the size of their images index in Universal Search, making the image results displayed much larger.  Google’s goal is to provide more relevant images for more searches.

What this means to you is that the images on your website become even more important, since Google is going to start showing them more often in regular organic search results.

Now is a great time to go through your website and take a look at your images.  How can you improve your images?  What images can you add to your site?  Here are a few ideas to consider when looking for more images to add to your website:

  • Does the image make sense with the content/text on the page?
  • Can the image be shrunk to a small size and still be viewable and make sense to the reader?
  • Does the image invoke the right emotion from the reader?
  • Can I afford the image?
