Effective Facebook Wall Posts for Businesses
Written By: June Bachman ~ 2/23/2012 3:00:00 PM

Wendy and I have been putting effort into creating a more engaging Facebook fan page.  Admittedly, it is a slow process that does take time … time out of our day to engage, as well as time to see the results.  However, the results are slowly picking up.  And, we trust the results will continue to grow as we are committed to consistently making the effort to engage with our community.

That being said, we’re always looking for ideas and inspiration to not only keep us motivated, but also help us improve our processes.  Recently we came across a research study that was conducted last year to offer businesses insight into how they can use their fan page wall posts to connect with their communities.  This is the first is a multi-part blog post series.  We hope the concrete information provided from the study will provide some of the answers you may have been seeking, as you wonder about improving the engagement with your fans.

When is the best time to post to your fan page wall?

  • The best time to make wall posts is when your fans are most likely to engage.  Between the hours of 8 PM and 7 AM is the best time to post.  During this time period fans are 20% more likely to engage by liking your page or commenting your posts.

When is the best day to post to your fan page wall?

  • Although it is important to post routinely to your fan page wall, it is more important to post on the days that your fans are most likely to be using Facebook in the first place.  The most popular days for Facebook are on Wednesdays and Sundays.  Keep in mind that Fridays are the worst day.  Fans will engage 8% more on Wednesdays, and in general are more apt to see, read and engage with posts not made during work days and times.

How many times per day should you post to your fan page wall?

  • When it comes to wall posts it is about the quality, not the quantity.  In fact, user engagement actually is 40% higher when there are fewer than three wall posts per day.  Users won’t engage with more posts, so post fewer times, but make them count.

There is much more that can be said about effectively posting to your fan page wall.  Stay tuned … next week we’ll bring you part two!
