.ORG Domain Gets Sold
Written By: June Bachman ~ 12/14/2019 9:00:00 AM

Last month, the .org domain was sold to a private firm Ethos Capital by Public Interest Registry, a non-profit organization that has managed the .org domain registrations since 2002. This deal is anticipated to close in early 2020.

Currently there are about ten million .org domains, primarily used by associations, organizations and non-profits. There is a concern, that with a private firm owning the domain registration, domain registration costs will increase in the future.

What to do if you have a .org domain.

You may wish to consider renewing your domain name now. The longest period of time you can renew a domain for is currently ten years. ICANN allows existing registrants to renew domain names before pricing hikes may occur.

As always, don’t hesitate to give Wendy a call, if you have any questions!
